Ask the Experts: examples!

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

This post contains ‘one of each’ of the things I use on this blog, audio, YouTube of presentation with narration and a pure slide deck. Which one do you think works best? Answers please in the Ask the Experts forum, not here, as Helen and the others would like to join in!

Pure sound files

Market Maths is an MP3 file describing simple proportional calculations. I pushed the boat out a little and used a digital sound recorder and microphone to record some ‘ambient’ background in Birmingham City markets. The mix was done using Audacity.

YouTube

If you can access YouTube, then this talks you through tree diagrams.

Slideshare

Above is a Linear equations ’slideshare’ deck. No sound track, and you can click when you want to advance the slides. You can use OpenOffice to export PowerPoints as flash animations if you have firewall issues.

Good luck again

I’ll be thinking of you all as I wait for the removal van!

I’ll be off this site for a few days while they reconnect my broadband.

The calculator module 5 paper

Monday, June 04th, 2007

You know what was in your exam earlier today - I haven’t a clue!

Where there any questions on the following topics?

  • Pythagoras
  • Trigonometry
  • Areas of shapes
  • Volume questions
  • Anything to do with circles
  • Trial and improvement

If you can remember anything and you were doing the Modular Module 5 paper, just pop a comment on this post.

Those are topics that can crop up on the calculator paper, the one next Monday, but it is possible to have questions on the non-calculator paper (leave your answer in terms of Pi and so on).

There will be a revision session this Friday morning.

Good luck

Good luck tomorrow!

  • Get parked and into College in good time
  • Look up your candidate number on the lists
  • Once you get the paper, read it all in the first 5 minutes or so
  • Make sure you get the early questions done, and the ‘part a’ and ‘part b’ bits of the harder ones
  • Ruler? Two pencils? Eraser? Compasses? Protractor? Two pens?

Extra GCSE Class

Friday, June 01st, 2007

For those who are dropping in this morning, the extra lesson is still on!

I mention this because the electricity is going off on the Sutton campus for a few hours while they connect the new sports hall.

I’ve got my photocopying done already and it is a bright day so we should be OK!
